Our rules.

We built Daoly to read charts, not people. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how you can make it go away.

1. What we collect

To compute your BaZi chart, I Ching readings, and compatibility reports, we need certain inputs. Here is exactly what we handle:

Birth date, birth time, birth city, gender, name On your device. Sent to our server only when you invite someone for a compatibility reading. Required to compute BaZi charts and compatibility.
Apple user ID, email (if you choose to share), display name Our server (Cloudflare D1 database). Sign in with Apple. Email is optional and only used for account recovery.
Device token (APNs) Our server. To send you daily reading notifications you opt into.
Device ID (random UUID) On your device and our server. Session management and usage limits.
I Ching questions and reading history On your device. Questions are sent to our AI service for interpretation and are not stored long-term. To generate readings and cache them for offline viewing.
Subscription status Managed by RevenueCat. Our server stores a record of your entitlement. To unlock Daoly+ features.
Waitlist email and platform preference Our server. To notify you at launch. Deleted after launch emails are sent.

2. What stays on your device

Most of your data never leaves your phone:

  • Your full birth profiles and BaZi charts
  • I Ching reading history and cached AI interpretations
  • Compatibility reading results
  • Notification preferences
  • Calendar and lunar date display settings

Compatibility readings between you and another person are computed locally. Their birth info never leaves your phone unless they submit it through an invite link.

3. Analytics

We use Mixpanel to understand how the app is used. We track events like screen visits, feature usage, and subscription flows. We do not collect:

  • Your exact birth date
  • Your precise location coordinates
  • Your email address
  • Your I Ching questions

Analytics properties are limited to: app version, subscription tier, primary element archetype (e.g. "Wood"), and session count. Mixpanel receives your Apple display name as a profile property if you provide one.

4. AI interpretations

I Ching readings and chart interpretations are generated using a third-party AI service (Anthropic Claude) accessed through our backend. Your questions and chart context are sent to this service for interpretation but are not stored long-term by us or used to train AI models.

We apply content safety filtering on both the client and server to block questions involving self-harm, medical advice, violence, or minors.

5. Third-party services

  • Sign in with Apple — Authentication. Governed by Apple's privacy policy.
  • RevenueCat — Subscription management and payment processing. Governed by RevenueCat's privacy policy.
  • Mixpanel — Product analytics. Governed by Mixpanel's privacy policy.
  • Anthropic Claude — AI interpretation engine. Your questions are processed but not stored or used for training.
  • Apple Push Notification service (APNs) — Delivering daily reading notifications.

6. Notifications

Daoly sends a daily local notification at a time you choose (default 7:00 AM). You can change or disable this at any time in the app's notification settings. Push notifications for future features require your explicit opt-in and can be revoked in iOS Settings.

7. Data sharing

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal data with advertisers, data brokers, or anyone else outside the services listed above. Your chart data stays on your device. We cannot see it, and we cannot sell what we do not have.

8. Data retention

  • Account data is retained until you delete your account.
  • Waitlist emails are deleted after launch notifications are sent.
  • AI interpretation requests are processed in real-time and not stored.
  • On-device data persists until you delete the app or clear app data.

9. Deleting your data

You can delete your account and all associated data from within the app (Profile → Delete Account). This will:

  • Remove your push tokens from our server
  • Nullify your email, display name, and Apple user ID
  • Mark your account as deleted
  • Clear all on-device data including charts, readings, and cached content
  • Reset your Mixpanel identity

Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.

10. Security

We use industry-standard practices to protect your data:

  • Authentication tokens are stored in the iOS Keychain
  • All API communication uses HTTPS/TLS encryption
  • Our backend runs on Cloudflare Workers with D1 database, inheriting Cloudflare's security infrastructure
  • On-device data leverages iOS built-in data protection

No system is perfectly secure. We do our best, but we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Children's privacy

Daoly is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If we learn that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.

12. Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction or deletion of your data
  • Opt out of analytics tracking
  • Withdraw consent for data processing

To exercise any of these rights, delete your account in the app or contact us at the email below.

13. International users

Daoly is developed in Brooklyn and Taipei. Your data may be processed on servers operated by Cloudflare, Apple, RevenueCat, Mixpanel, or Anthropic in various jurisdictions. By using Daoly, you consent to the transfer of your data to these services and their respective jurisdictions.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Significant changes will be noted in the app. The "Effective" date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.
